Managing Paternity Leave

Designed to give fathers/partners increased confidence and knowledge in their ability to manage their new role as a working parent.

Fathers and partners can feel valued as employees, but ignored as parents in their role at work. Many significant others face the same everyday parenthood concerns. Coupled with a lack of sleep, change in routine, and potential relationship impacts this can lead to increased levels of anxiety, depression, and a decreased focus on work commitments.

Many may lack the information as to why they are experiencing heightened levels of stress. This can be because few attend perinatal (pre and postnatal) appointments and they can miss out on valuable advice around this transitional period. Even so, a lot of these appointments are currently focussed on basic physical needs of the mother and baby, with little time or opportunity to focus on the personal transition and the potential impacts upon emotional, relational, and mental health.

Includes three coaching sessions. It also includes e-mail support between sessions.

Outcomes:

  • Understand your new role as a parent in the context of work.

  • Strategies and tips that will help you create a balance between your work and home life.

  • Setting boundaries between work and personal space/time.

  • Improved skills and confidence in your ability to negotiate workload, position, and work expectations with your team and line manager through potentially difficult times.

  • The development of an individualised, detailed coaching plan to manage your focus and family life.

  • Understanding organisational policy entitlements.
